What a year!

Somehow it's been a whole year since the last time I blogged and I'm quite disappointed that I haven't made an effort to keep up with it.

That said, I've had a good hard look at what is important to me and am determined to recommence my blogging as my creative outlet. So, here goes - my blog relaunch post!

Just a quick update on where I'm at and what I've been doing. Almost exactly a year ago I was lucky enough to get a job as a buyer's assistant at my favourite department store, which was quite a career change for me but one that I am very happy I made. I am part of a fantastic and supportive team and absolutely love the role, and while there are some long hours and exhausting days I know I'm in the right industry. I'm working with accessories so have been thrown head-first into the world of scarves, hats, belts and gloves, as well as shoes and handbags. I love going to work and learning about what's trending, what customers are buying and how the whole fashion industry works.

Recently I was lucky enough to win a ticket to the Logies through work and wanted to share a few pics of my experience. I don't generally tend to get star-struck at these types of things so I spent most of the time people-watching (one of my favourite pastimes!) and checking out how amazing everyone looked all dolled up in their black-tie-best. Here are a couple of images of me and the incredible location of our table (we were literally front-and-centre, 3 tables from the front!). I was also very lucky to be on a table with a few designers, who DID make me quite star struck! One of them designer Asher Keddie's dress for the night, which was one of my favourite dresses and is a favourite designer of mine.

Bruno Mars performing

Buble! <3

It also just happens that we were one of the lucky tables to have Michael Buble walk right past us during his performance, which was by far the highlight of the evening for me. Other highlights were Bruno Mars, whose performance was AH-MAZING, Carrie Bickmore (who I have a new female crush on), Claudia Karvan and Zoe Foster-Blake.

Who needs a clutch bag when you've got Hamish Blake as arm candy?!

I love the detail on Carrie's dress and that colour suited her to a tee. She looked truly breathtaking. I saw Rachel Griffiths wearing Claudia's dress in a magazine shoot a couple of months ago and thought that it would make a great dress for the Logies, so I was glad to see Claudia wearing it. (I can't remember which magazine it was and can't seem to find the details of who designed the dress, so please comment if you know who she's wearing.) And Zoe I just love, mostly for her work but also because she's married to Hamish Blake!

I'd love to hear who was on your best dressed at the Logies, as there were loads of stunning dresses and some very dapper men in suits in attendance as well.

Thanks for reading! I'm looking forward to getting back into writing here and would love to read your comments!

Quality over Quantity

My best friend's getting married next week - which I'm SUPER excited about - so what with all the preparations, parties and pedicures to organise leading up to the event I have really scaled back my shopping habits.

I have to say it hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be, and at the same time it has made me think more closely at the things I'm buying and whether I really need them. I've decided that I need to start purchasing fewer items and spend the same amount on one or two quality pieces rather than 20 dresses that I'll probably only wear twice.

The most pressing vacancy in my wardrobe at the moment is for a decent black blazer. I bought a lovely one in London a few years ago from Zara that was perfect at the time: reasonably priced, formal enough for interviews but made of cotton so it's still casual enough to throw on with a pair of jeans and heels for an evening out. Now, though, it's seen a few too many winters and too many washes and isn't holding it's shape very well, so I've come to the realisation that it will have to be replaced.

I plan on buying a really nice, tailored blazer to replace it with and will start the hunt after the wedding festivities are complete. I'm expecting it to take several lengthy shopping trips (during which I'm sure I'll inadvertently purchase several other wardrobe items...) because I'm not looking for a quick-fix but something that will stay in my rotation for many years to come.

I purchased a beautiful black winter coat from Saba last year as I was in dire need of a staple for the colder months, and I have no doubt I'll have it for at least the next 5 years. I'd like to continue the habit on to trousers and shoes next, but they can wait for a while. I think a decent trench coat is required as well...

I'd love to hear whether you shop seasonally or buy investment pieces to last for a while. What items are you willing to spend more money on in the aim that they will last and last?

One-Piece

I'm running a little behind with my A to Z entries this week (due to several uni assignments and a severe lack of time) so I thought I'd branch out and combine O and P!

I haven't migrated back towards the one-piece since it came back into fashion a few years ago (mainly because I'm worried about unusual tan lines) but I'm well overdue for a new pair of bathers and I'm seriously considering diving in head-first!

Are you a fan of the one-piece?
