Autumn classics

This is my first official post of the A to Z blogging challenge so wish me luck! I'm going to kick things off with A is for autumn classics.

Daylight savings has just come to an end here in Melbourne and although it's still warm I know I'm not alone in starting to think about what I'm going to be wearing over the cooler months.

I've selected some styles that I think are essential wardrobe items for autumn; when layers are a must and the pieces allow you to transition smoothly into winter without causing a shock to the system.

The first item is a trench coat. I'm feeling bright colours at the moment and love this one by Burberry, but for those of us with a more modest budget Mod Cloth and Asos have some great alternatives.

Second is knitwear. Knits are versatile layering items and there is never any shortage of styles. It might be the changing of the leaves during autumn but for some reason I'm drawn to warm colours. I like this knit from Country Road as it could be worn with trousers, a skirt or over a dress.

I'm also a fan of the dress-with-boots-and-bare-legs look for sunny days, and would love this Asos dress with a pair of tan, knee-high leather boots, a cropped jersey jacket (Marcs have some very flattering styles) and a cute hat.

To keep the colour trend going, I think these MSGM trousers are fantastic. They'd look great with a neutral cardigan and a bright jacket in green or red and a pair of patent leather flats.

Chinos are also great for a more casual look when it starts getting a bit colder. You can get them in all sorts of colours at the moment but I like mixing my neutral pair with a striped top, bright jacket and a simple pair of wedges. Great for lunch out with the girls and comfortable enough to hit the shops in afterwards!

(I'm beginning to notice a bit of a trend colour-wise with these suggestions so I apologise - clearly I'm into red and orange at the moment!)

In terms of accessories, I am a HUGE fan of scarves. I can't live without them and hardly ever go anywhere without one. I love the collection of colours and styles that are currently available at Ted Baker (see right) but I find it hard to look past op-shops for inspiration. You can always find something nice for a very reasonable price. (Just be sure to wash it before wearing!)

What's on your shopping list for this season? Have you cracked out the boots yet - or the peep-toe shoes and bare legs if you're in the northern hemisphere?!

  1. I love the Burberry trench! Very cool. And I have been eyeing up a trench on ASOS, although they don't have it in my size. And that dress ... pretty sure that's in my 'Save for later' at the moment. Lol.
